In this 17-18th century chest, the medallion in the center is decorated with a single dragon who emerges from a lotus field to raise a tray of Wish Fulfilling Gems and other auspicious offerings. Overhead are painted clouds. The beautifully painted background is decorated with a scalloped roundel and geometric line design pattern inspired by popular brocade and textiles of the period. This chest has flowing water and cloud motifs in the four corners and a decorative floral border. The metal fittings and clasp are original.
