Khawachen/InnerAsia Announces the Launch of the Spring 2011 Design Collection
March 15, 2011
“The Dartmouth Collection”
Khawachen/InnerAsia is buzzing with excitement as we introduce our Spring 2011 Design Collection. The first of these, “The Dartmouth Collection” is inspired by the rich palette of the natural world and Dartmouth College’s deep connection to the surrounding beauty of Northern New England. “The Dartmouth Collection” embodies the best of simple elegance and timeless design.
When Kesang Tashi, founder and CEO of Khawachen/Innerasia arrived at Dartmouth College in 1966, little did he know that as the first Tibetan to attend this Ivy League institution, the future of his life and legacy of Tibetan rugs would change forever. Inspired by the lessons in leadership and social responsibility he was exposed to at Dartmouth, Tashi went on to devote his life to revitalizing traditional arts and crafts in Tibet. At the top of this list was creating a future for new generations of Tibetan artisans and restoring Tibet’s centuries old rug weaving heritage to the success it is today.
“The Dartmouth Collection” is available in two designs; “Northern Forest” and “Maze”. “Northern Forest” uses the stylized; repeating pattern of the “lone pine” image that is part of the Dartmouth logo and represents Dartmouth’s enduring connection with the water, forest and mountains of its New England home. “Maze” uses a “key motif” popular in Greek, Chinese and Central Asian art in a repeating design of universal appeal and beauty. Both designs are woven in the deep, rich tones of “Dartmouth green” with contrasting cream tones for warmth. These versatile and eclectic designs are stunning additions to both contemporary and traditional settings and enhance the beauty and comfort of Living Room, Bed Room, Board Room, Library and Home Office spaces.
These elegant and beautifully designed rugs are woven by master Artisans in Nepal from pure Tibetan Highland Sheep wool in 100-knot quality. They are available in standard sizes of 2x3', 3x6, 4x6', 5x7', 6x9', 8x10', 9x12’ and 10x14' and 3’ runners in 8’,10’ and 12’. Custom sizing availible. Orders for summer delivery being accepted now.

Spanning the range of classic to contemporary, the Shangrila and Silk Road Collections introduce new colors, new imagery and new ideas to Khawachen/Innerasia's portfolio of handcrafted, artisanal rugs.

The Shangrila Collection is inspired by the artistry of Japanese water color and draws upon the color, form and shape of earth and water. Four new designs in the Floral Series capture the graceful lines and subtle colors of familiar flowers and vines of the seasons. The Shangrila Collection is woven in Tibetan Highland Sheep wool, 80 knot quality by master artisans in Tibet.
"The Silk Road Collection"
"The Silk Road Collection" refines, reinvigorates and reinterprets some of Khawachen/Innerasia's most admired designs into an exciting collection of beautifully textured and vibrantly colored rugs of warmth and charm. Drawing upon the rich imagery of classical Tibetan design , The Silk Road Collection adds a new color palette, silk detailing and 100 knot definition to Tibetan favorites like; Tibetan Floral, Eight Auspicious Symbols, Tibetan Sky, Peonies, Pomegranate Tree and others. The Silk Road Collection is made in 100 knot Highland Tibetan Sheep wool and silk by master artisans in Nepal.
